express News in Brief

Hope back to routine went well for everyone, it seems like we've been back ages! If you are online shopping, thinking of booking that holiday?, then don't forget to register with easyfundraising and select Express as your cause. Thank you!

It's been a very busy time at Express HQ. We have had lots of lovely visitors and also many phone calls. Sometimes parents just want to speak to someone who 'gets it' and sometimes they want more specific advice. We're always happy to help if we can.
This month is off to a busy start too.

Thank you to James Berry MP for coming in to see us to hear about the progress we are making and the plans for the hub. It was lovely to show James some of the work from the young people at Express.

A BIG THANK YOU to John Lewis, Kingston and to everyone who voted for us. An amazing £1024 was raised in the Community Matters token scheme.

Over the next few months, as well as working on significant Capital Grants, we will soon be launching a fundraising campaign to specifically raise funds for the hub. We will need to reach out to businesses and the wider community. We need your help! If you have contacts, specific experience or would like to become involved please do get in touch.

If you haven't yet been to one of our parent/carer support groups, please do come along. We are all very friendly and these groups are run by and for you. These groups are for whether you are currently going through diagnosis, have just received a diagnosis or have valuable experience to share. We run both daytime and evening groups.

Express Support GroupsWe now run 5 different support groups as well as 1:1 support for EHCPs and DLAs all details are below. Our groups are on different days both daytime and evening and all run by volunteers please contact us for more information or simply turn up (only the Rose has to be via ticketing for capacity purposes). It helps to share experiences, and to know you are not on your own.

ARTS @ Express
Our Art therapy and SIBs groups have started back.
We are hoping to expand these groups further if this is something you are interested in for the future please do get your referrals in soon. Places go fast! It's lovely to hear parents tell us how much their children look forward to them. Please see our flyer below for more details and apply via ourwebsite. This is just a small part of what the eventual hub could provide please support us and help that goal become a reality sooner.

We have an excellent dedicated small team of volunteers but we really do need support with fundraising to help cover our increasing costs. Please do consider fundraising for us, however big or small it all helps! Some ideas ... Coffee mornings, cake sales, quiz night in your local, good as new sale or pamper evening. Please also nominate us in your local supermarket schemes or look out for community funds we can apply for. We really need your help!

Please please could we ask as many of you as possible to sign up to easyfundraising. It doesn't cost you anything and you can raise money for Express when you shop online. See below for details.

Your comments are always welcome - please click here to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you.

Please continue to support us it really does make a difference. You can do your bit by spreading the word, attending events, offering your expertise, and fundraising. Please do get involved.

This video, which features the incredible Michael McCreary, is a wonderful introduction to autism spectrum disorder. The video was created to support customer service professionals when they provide services or support to people with ASD; however the positive response from the general public has been overwhelming. This video is so accessible and entertaining, it offers something for everyone.

WICKED first Autism Friendly Performance
Saturday 14 May 2016 at 1.30pm Apollo Victoria Theatre, London
The National Autistic Society are working closely with the Wicked team to deliver their first autism friendly performance.  We hope to create a friendly and supportive environment in which to enjoy the show. The specially adjsuted performance is suitable for people with autism, with trained staff on hand in dedicated quiet and activity areas should anyone need to leave their seats.
Based on the international best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire that ingeniously re-imagined the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’, Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
For more details and the visual story please follow this link: www.WickedTheMusical.co.uk/AutismFriendly
