Welcome to our June Newsletter!
express News in Brief
A very big thank you to John and all the Dads and Carers who packed out the function room of the Waggon and Horses pub last month to make our first Dad Support Group such a success. It has been wonderful to hear such positive feedback, and to know such a cross-section of our children and young people were represented, with ages ranging from Reception class through to young adults. We hear that as well as discussing many of the challenges facing our children, there was also a chance to relax, laugh and celebrate their uniqueness as well. The next group takes place again at the Waggon and Horses pub in Surbiton on Wednesday 8 June, 7.30-9.30pm. All dads, granddads and male carers of young people with an autism spectrum condition are welcome to attend. Emailinfo@expresscic.org.uk to register your interest.
We are now overwhelmed with requests for a mum's group at the same venue :) - we are on the case and the first one will be on Thursday 7 July!
We are busy running the office, groups, fundraising and organising events. Our next big challenge is the Kingston Rotary Club, Dragon Boat Challenge! We need you! We have a number of young people on our team and we are looking for some more adults to join the team. See below for details.
In our other news, we met with the council and are now due to meet with adult and childrens representatives to discuss need! We will keep you updated with our progress but to find out a little bit more about our plans, please take a look at our new video
Over the next few months, as well as working on significant Capital Grants, we will be launching a fundraising campaign to specifically raise funds for the hub. We will need to reach out to businesses and the wider community. We need your help! If you have contacts, specific experience or would like to become involved please do get in touch.
Please do let us know what you like to see in the newsletter, what you would like to see more of or less of. Have a look at the links, we try to include as many informative articles as possible.
Please could we ask as many people as possible to sign up to easyfundraising. It doesn't cost you anything and you can raise money for express when you shop online. You can also set up a regular donation via direct debit on our local giving page.
We have an excellent dedicated small team of volunteers but we really do need support with fundraising to help cover our increasing costs. Please do consider fundraising for us, however big or small it all helps! Some ideas ... Coffee mornings, cake sales, quiz night in your local, good as new sale or pamper evening. Please also nominate us in your local supermarket schemes or look out for community funds we can apply for. We really need your help!
Your comments are always welcome - please click here to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you.
